🎥 Introducing Video Feedback 🌟

Video feedback is available in Premium plans and above

You can now leave video feedback on your website with BugHerd. Create short walkthroughs of feedback and bugs with or without audio.

It's the easy way to leave feedback on multi-step interactions, animations and anything that's difficult to describe with written words alone.

Watch this short video or read the support notes to find out more.

This is in Beta, so as always we'd love to hear what you think. Drop us a line at support@bugherd.com or leave a comment here.

BugHerd now works in more places

Ok, we’re going to get a bit technical here, but bear with us. We promise it will be worth your while. 🧐

TLDR;

  • BugHerd now supports a much wider variety of URL formats in your project’s Website URL(s).
  • This enables some great new ways for you to use BugHerd. 🎉
  • Check out our help docs here for more details or talk to us.

We now support all parts of the URL when assigning feedback to projects. This means you can include querystring parameters, hashes, unicode characters, and subdomains when setting up your project’s Website URL as shown below. This is particularly handy if you have several BugHerd projects on the same website.

New ways you can use BugHerd

This seemingly small change enables some great new ways for you to use BugHerd that you might not have previously thought of. Such as…

Website Internationalisation:

Often websites use the “querystring” to control which language version of the site a visitor will see. A good example of this is the Sonos’ support website.

https://support.sonos.com/s/?language=en_US

Now you can set up a different BugHerd project for each language version of your site, enabling you to invite different translators to each.

Preview sites (like Hubspot, Shopify, etc):

Popular platforms like Hubspot, Shopify, and more use the “querystring” to direct users to hidden or “preview” versions of your website. This is particularly useful for getting your clients approval before publishing changes for the world to see.

These URLs might look something like this…

https://mywebsite.com/landing-page?hs_preview=oCoIBvJv-10427322061

Now you can add these links to your project’s Website URL list so that feedback on those pages are directed to the right project in BugHerd.

Online course content:

If you're creating online learning courses, modules or other course content may also be identified by querystrings. For example, Moodle courses can comprise many pages of content identified with URLs like the one below.

https://school.moodledemo.net/course/view.php?id=37

Now you can add these URLs to your project’s Website URL list so that feedback on those courses/chapters/modules/etc are directed to the right project in BugHerd.

Single page apps:

Finally, if you use BugHerd on a single page web application, your app may use the “querystring” or “hash paths” to identify what screen the user is viewing.

Now when a user gives feedback on a screen, BugHerd captures the full “hash path” and “querystring” so you can be sure the feedback is pinned to the correct element on the screen.

To find out more about any of this check out our help guide here.

Got questions?

Wondering if this will work for your special use case? Let us know in the comments below or via support@bugherd.com. We’re here to help.

Cheers,

The BugHerd Team

Simpler URL management for your projects

It’s now easier to add, remove and modify URLs for your BugHerd projects. It’s also now easier to set new projects up.

To view the URLs for your projects click on the Project Settings menu on the left hand side of your Task Board and select edit project.

For each project, you can now list all the URLs you want the BugHerd sidebar to appear on.

Note that the first URL listed is the main URL for your project. Guests will be directed to that page when they log in to give feedback.

You can view your URLs, add URLs, remove URLs or swap the order of the URLs in each BugHerd project.

Add a URL to a project

Add a URL by clicking Add another URL in the Project Settings.

Enter the URL. BugHerd will confirm if it's valid with a green tick. You may get a warning message if BugHerd can't find a website matching the URL. For example: if you're using a local network or your website isn't available to the outside world. You can read more about this here.

Remove a URL from a project

You can remove a URL by clicking the ellipses (...) beside the URL and selecting Remove URL.

What happens to your existing project settings?

Don’t worry - you don’t need to do anything to your existing project settings. Your project will continue to work as they do now.

Previously you had your Feedback URL and any secondary URLs were added in the Hostnames section (see image below)

Your Feedback URL is now set as the primary URL for a project. Any additional URLs that were in your Hostnames section will be transferred to secondary URLs.

You can simply add any further URLs to your list as required.

If you want more information about URLs in your project, you can read this support note.
