I saw this on the back of a van today. How would you fix the punctuation?
"Just had the nicest engineer come and sort my boiler out. Sadly, I didn't catch his name but well done!"
This is an example of a COMMA SPLICE, and it's a really common mistake for native speakers.
With my students I often call this a "run-on sentence", though this is something slightly different.
I can never remember what the difference is, so I'm borrowing this good example.
COMMA SPLICE: Tony is dishonest, he steals data for a living.
RUN-ON: Tony is dishonest he steals data for a living.
CORRECT: Tony is dishonest. He steals data for a living.
