Everyday English: Does it live up to the hype?

Image #1

I have no interest in watching this documentary - I think it's been over-hyped.

verb - overhype

= to make exaggerated claims about (a product, idea, or event); publicize or promote excessively.

Useful expressions:

to live up to the hype = to meet/fulfill your expectations

'I hope this new album/film/diet/book is as good as people are saying and lives up to the hype.'

Also:

This film is overrated = valued or rated too highly

This film is underrated = not valued or rated highly enough.

Give an example of a film/TV programme/book etc that you think is overrated, underrated or doesn't live up to the hype.
