Everyday English: quirky and creepy

On Saturday I went to a family wedding and stayed in a Bed and Breakfast Hotel.

My Welsh family arrived before me and in the WhatsApp group I asked

"What's the hotel like?".

The answers were:

"Very quirky" "A bit quirky" "Interesting and quirky" "Quirky and a bit creepy!"

"Quirky" is a really useful word.

There are various definitions on Google:

  • unusual in an attractive and interesting way (Cambridge Dictionary)
  • unusual in especially an interesting or appealing way (Merriem-Webster)
  • a more polite and positive way of saying 'abnormal, unique, strange, out of the ordinary.' (Reddit)
  • something that has or is full of quirks, which are odd or unusual qualities. (Oxford Dictionary)
  • odd or unpredictable in appearance, character, or behavior. (Collins Dictionary)

Synonyms: bizarre, strange, weird, peculiar, eccentric, wacky

This hotel was certainly full of quirks.
