I saw this expression in an Academic Reading today.
New research SHEDS LIGHT ON the disappearance of an ancient society.
💡 Meaning: to make something easier to understand, by providing new or better information; to clarify
Idioms are often used in Academic Writing. But it is not safe to use them unless you're 100% sure that they are correct.
