When you add an 'e' without the 'mm', you get 'PLUME' 🪶 (rhymes with 'room'), so 'plumer' sounds like 'ploomer'.
I'm sure you already know that the correct spelling is PLUMBER. 🪠 (silent 'b').
The word "plumber" dates from the Roman Empire. Lead was used for piping and for baths, and the Latin word for lead is plumbum (hence the chemical symbol for lead, Pb).
