Academic Language in Listening Part 3: Laki volcano
Listening Part 3 is usually a discussion related to academic research (students discussing a project, tutors giving feedback etc).
Sometimes this language is the everyday language of studying, but sometimes it includes vocabulary related to university studies that you may not familiar with.
There are many examples in this Part 3 about the Laki Volcano.
You will find it useful to learn this language associated with different aspects of university study.

At university, you have to examine the evidence:
- to do (some) background reading
- to make observations
- a lack of scientific data to support them
- to use the right terminology
- to give a consistent account of what happened
- there were contradictions
- to make sense of the science
