Pronunciation: How to pronounce words ending in ey
The problem with this spelling pattern is that there are 3 ways of pronouncing ‘ey’:
- /ei/ - they
- /i:/ - key 🔑
- Weak /i/ - monkey 🐵
Most words with the ‘ey’ spelling are pronounced like #3, but learners tend to pronounce them all like #1.
