Users can define consumers centrally in every region of Konnect and reference them in multiple control planes starting with Kong Gateway 3.10. This reduces operational burden for consumer management by centralizing the consumers in one region, instead of defining them in multiple control planes. This also reduces the config sync latency between CP <> DP by reducing the config size that pushes down from CP to DP.
The 3.10 release enables centralized consumer management for consumers authenticating through the Key Auth Plugin only. Additional auth mechanisms for consumers will be added in future milestones.
This functionality is only available through APIs today. UI support will be added in the next few weeks.
