Logging in to your Policy Reporter portal

Following the launch of Policy Reporter's security enhancement on April 2, 2024, users will need to complete a one-time email and profile verification step the first time they log in to the Policy Reporter portal.

First Time Logging In:

1. Verify Your Email

  1. Enter your username at portal.policyreporter.com and click "Next".
  2. Check the email associated with your Policy Reporter user account and locate an email from support@policyreporter.com with the subject "Create your new Policy Reporter password".
  3.  Click on "follow this link" at the top of the email or copy and paste the full link* that appears at the bottom into your browser. (*Some corporate email security systems reformat clickable links in a way that breaks them.)
  4. Set a new, secure password with at least 12 characters.

2. Complete Your Profile

  • The first time you log into the Policy Reporter portal after April 2, 2024, you will see a "Welcome!" form containing your first and last name (if we have it on record), email address, and a few other fields.
  • Complete the form (at minimum, making a selection in the required "Role at Company or Organization" field) before clicking the green "Save and Continue" button. This completes your profile and logs you into the portal.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I know that a password reset email is legitimate?

If the URL to reset your password begins with auth.policyreporter.com, you can trust it is legitimate. For extra peace of mind, copy and paste the URL at the end of the email into your browser rather than clicking on a link in the email.

I didn't receive an email after entering my username and seeing the "Email sent" message at portal.policyreporter.com!

  • Search your SPAM folder or system for an email from support@policyreporter.com
  • Check that you are supplying the right username! Our system will not tell you or give an indication that you've provided an invalid username: you will still see a password field and opportunity to reset a password, and a message to check your email (but for an invalid username, no email is sent). This follows security best practice, which discourages providing signals that "leak" valid usernames which hackers may use to perform further attacks, or even just to identify a company's customers. If you have tried likely usernames and do not receive the email, please contact our support team and they'll help you figure it out!
  • Email support@policyreporter.com with subject "Login help" or call support at 1 (855) 749-7322

The link in the email takes to a page with an error at the top that says "Your password reset code has expired or is invalid...." What now?

  • Try copying the URL at the end of the email message and pasting it into your browser rather than simply clicking on a link in the email. (Some corporate email security systems reformat links in a way that breaks them.)
  • If pasting the link in your browser does not work, you link may have expired. Enter your username again at portal.policyreporter.com to trigger a new email with a reset password link.
  • Make sure you use only the link in the most recent password reset email; triggering a new email with a reset password link invalidates any link sent earlier, even before the 30 minute expiration.
  • If you are still having issues, email support@policyreporter.com with the subject "Login help" or call support at 1 (855) 749-7322

How long is the reset password link in the email valid?

  • The link to reset your password will expire 30 minutes after the email was sent, or if another reset password email is triggered.
  • If you use the reset password link after it has expired, you will see an error and will need to enter your username again at portal.policyreporter.com and click "Next".
    • First-time users: This will trigger a new email with a valid link.
    • Other users: Click the "Forgot password?" link, enter your username, and click the green "Reset via email" button to trigger a new email with a valid link.

I reset my password but forgot it!

  • After you enter your username at portal.policyreporter.com, click the "Forgot password?" link under the password field.
  • Re-enter your username and click the green "Reset via email" button, then check your email for the secure link to the password reset page.
  • Remember, the link in the email expires after 30 minutes, so you will have to repeat this process if you see the message "Your password reset code has expired or is invalid. Please retry your request." on using the link. Make sure you use only the link in the most recent password reset email; triggering a new email with a reset password link invalidates any link sent earlier, even before the 30 minute expiration.
  • If you see an error message but it has been under 30 minutes since you requested a reset, try copying the URL at the end of the email message and pasting it into your browser rather than simply clicking on a link in the email. (Some corporate email security systems reformat links in a way that breaks them.)
