3. Tips

Wait it is September and you are talking about Gift Guides? Well yes, yes I am! Now is the time!

So let’s get to work but before we get started you need to set your goal of passive or active income for your business model. Once you know this you can better determine the set up and then promotion of your gift guides. The main difference is for the passive gift guides and active ones are your promotion and interaction with the guide daily. For passive income, it is not the main source of revenue for you so once you set up your evergreen content you let it go, promoting of course. I do suggest that even for the passive income affiliates you start to review your guides daily. By watching the performance and making small changes you can increase your revenue.

First we will review the types of Gift Guides, then talk about how to get organized.

Then in next week’s tip we will move on to creation of guides and finally promoting your gift guides.

Types of Gift Guides

The most important part of the types of Gift Guides is that you know your readers and followers. Do not assume because you put it out there they will read it. Gift Guides are also the perfect place to strategically expand your readership and focus on becoming an expert in certain gift guides using SEO and Keywords.

Here are 5 Types of Gift Guides

There are a few others and you can also always get creative.

1. Gift Guides for a type of fan or lover (based on your niche you can get very specific if you want)

For example, Gift Guide for the:

  • BBQ Fan
  • Workout Fan
  • Kitchen Lover
  • Farm to Table Lover
  • Car Lover
  • Travel Lover
  • Spicy Food Fan
  • Dog Lover

Gift Guide for Age Group and Persona:

  • Toddler
  • Teenager
  • Millennial
  • Family
  • Grandparent
  • Empty Nest

2. Wishlists

These are a lot of fun to develop and you can focus on building them in two different ways. Again, you should think about what your readers and followers would best respond to.

  • In the first method you can create Wish Lists based on the perfect list for all those on your list. For example – The toddler on your list, for the empty nester on your list, and go on from there. Building a sort of one stop shopping of unique yet general enough gifts for each person. The second method is creating an inspirational Wishlist filled with items you would love to receive.

3. Holiday Sales Overviews

These are not only eye catching but give many people a snapshot of the holidays sales without having to do all the work. They see you as the expert and why they read your content.

4. Product Reviews

These are straight forward and again give your readers and followers an inside review from a trusted source. Please remember to be honest and never review a product you have not tried. A great way around not reviewing a product yourself is to join a group of fellow content creators to build a product review roundup.

5. Strictly SEO based (X=persona)

  • Holiday Gift Guides Under $100
  • Best holiday Gift Guide for X
  • Top Gifts for X
  • This Season’s Must Have Holiday Gift Guide
  • What to get your X for Christmas
  • Food Lover Gift Guide
  • Unique Gift Guide
  • Must Haves for the Holiday Season

Getting Organized

Getting organized is most likely the single most important part of a successful gift guide. Being organized allows you to pull links easily as well as adjust quickly if needed. So, you ask, “why would I need to make adjustments”? Well for two main reasons, the first being if the product is no longer available, price change or other product issue. But the most important reason to change an item on your guide is because of performance.

Here are a few of the things you need to stay organized:

  • Make a spreadsheet that has each item listed including affiliate links, prices, gift guides item is on, links to images and once Pins are made add them too. You also need to add what you want to track like clicks, sales and income.
  • Create a Pin for each item and keep all in one place for easy access
  • Canva or other type of template - readers and followers will appreciate the consistency.
  • Social Media Organic and Paid plan for Guides
  • Keyword spread sheet for products to be able to pull easily
  • Hashtag bank for easy copy and paste
  • List of Gift Guide Round Ups you will participate in.
