What's new on IELTS with Fiona

Yesterday I shared some CLAPTRAP advice about rules for the gerund and infinitive.

Here are some exceptions to the rules about 'to + infinitive'.

As we saw yesterday, if a verb can be followed by the gerund (ing), it usually means that it can be followed by a NOUN.

For example:

• I'm addicted to [chocolate].
• I'm not used to [this weather].
• I had to adjust to [life in the UK].
• I'm looking forward to [my vacation].
• The charity is dedicated to [animal welfare].
• Older people are more susceptible to [scams].
• This area is prone to [drought].
• I object to [the new regulations].
