Privacy vs publicity Part 1

Some people feel that the private lives of celebrities should NOT be openly shared by the media.To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The question concerns the right to privacy. Here is some useful vocabulary related to the topic.

  • Ethical journalism should respect personal boundaries.
  • Some things are off-limits.
  • Certain topics should be considered out of bounds (=beyond what is acceptable.)
  • They should be allowed to publish information, but within (certain) limits. (= without going beyond what is considered reasonable or allowable).
  • The paparazzi often overstep the mark (= to behave in an unacceptable way).
  • The stories go too far.
  • Tabloid newspaper journalists encroach on people's private lives.
  • The media invade people's privacy.
  • Media exposure can exacerbate personal conflicts.
  • Sharing information without consent raises ethical issues.
  • There's a fine line between (public interest and invasion of privacy)
  • A clear dividing line between (public and private) needs to be made.
  • To set a boundary.
