A couple of days ago, I talked about the fact that I get a tiny number of likes on my posts (normally 20 to 30, which is very low for an account with 86,000 followers).
This Instagram account is hugely popular, but I wonder what the followers are learning from it.
Let's take this example, where the writer has tried to find synonyms for 'intake' (normally uncountable, no 's').
Unfortunately there are hardly any synonyms for 'intake', so all of these are wrong -
❌take in
❌absorb
❌receive
❌ingest
I wonder if learners read these posts and think they should use these synonyms in the test, and therefore they get a low score.
Another teacher commented on my post:
"One of the issues with lower scorers is that the same factors that prevent them from improving their score also impede their ability to recognize high-quality advice'.
i.e. if you don't know what good advice looks like, you'll keep getting a low score.
I don't want to be negative - I am honestly just trying to help.
But when so many people like and follow people who give bad advice, the good advice gets drowned out.
Thank you for listening to my advice - you have made the right choice.
