Top 4 AI Writing Tools I use every day

I had a request about the AI tools that we talked about in our Writing Feedback session.

The top 4 (free*) tools I use are:

1. ChatGPT [https://chat.openai.com]
You can use ChatGPT to correct your essays. Here's the prompt:
Please correct the grammar errors in my essay. The question is [paste the question]. [paste your essay]"
Then: “Please list the corrections that you've made”

I also use ChatGPT to get 3 main 'For and Against' ideas for different topics (see the IDEAS BANK).

I don't recommend ChatGPT for model answers though - it simply doesn't understand IELTS well enough yet.

2. Claude.ai

Claude is very similar to ChatGPT. You can ask it to correct your writing (good) and write model essays (not so good). I like the model letters it produces for General Training Task 1.

NEW: Gemini is Google's version of ChatGPT. I haven't tried it yet.

3. Ludwig.guru

I use this to check which collocations exist and which ones are the most common. For example - see yesterday's post and this previous one. (There are lots more - just put Ludwig.guru into the Daily Tips search bar).

4. Wordtune

I sometimes use this to rephrase sentences to see the options available. It's not perfect but it often gives useful suggestions (see an example here). Wordtune is a 'Chrome Extension' - this simply means that if you're using Chrome as your browser, a small purple 'W' symbol will appear when you're writing on a google doc, so you always have the option to check it (I'll show how in the video).

*Please note that all of these options have paid versions so you can get unlimited checks.

I believe that some of these tools are not available in all countries.
